Developed Premise for the Game

I have developed a unique platformer design for how this game will work. It is partially inspired by SMB3 and my original game jam submission "School's Out!" You and your friends will be all in the lobby of the school to go get ice cream with you, but they left their backpacks around the school. It is your job to get their bags back without getting in trouble. But what makes it different?

World Design

You will have a SMB3 overworld-style map that starts at the lobby and you will have a map of the school to go around grabbing their bags from the classrooms. You have to return to the lobby each time you get a bag to be able to pick up another one. You will have to go through certain hallways multiple times, so the way to make it a challenge and not get boring is that the more you go through a specific hallway, the more difficult the level gets. This will happen by increasing enemies and adding obstacles. Rather than individual levels where you have to return to the start, you have areas where you traverse backwards. This means if you hit a level from the opposite side, you will start from the other end.

Time Limits

The original game had time limits for each level, but rather than have each area has a time limit, I will have the world have a time limit, a la "Majora's Mask." The key is in this game, if you don't beat the game in the time, you do not get another chance. It's the end of the day. There will most likely be level of difficulties - Beginner with time limit turned off, Normal with a generous time limit, and then a Hard/Challenge difficulty for those who wanna try more speedrun-type attempts.

I'm currently working on the overworld and general level ideas, so I ho you have areas where you traverse backwards. This means if you hit a level from the opposite side, you will start from the other end. pe to post more on that soon, but I wanted to give people a general idea on how the game is going to progress. I hope to make more progress with free time coming up.
