[Made in 4.5 hours for TriJam 165, Theme : One Action at a Time]

There is a creature willing to collect coins for you and you can tell him what to do one action at a time from your command station. Try to survive as long as you can while attacking enemies and collecting coins. How many points can you rack up?

Beat My Score Challenge:

Coins Collected - 14

Enemies Killed - 10

Final Score - 1900

Controls

This is all based in a command prompt on the right-side of the game window. You can use the following commands to complete actions:

face [direction] - Turn to face a given [direction]. Options are up, down, left, and right. (i.e. face up, face down, face left, face right)

move - Move in the direction you are currently facing

heal - Use your health kit to replenish your health.

attack - Attack an enemy in front of you

take_dmg - This is a command where you can hurt yourself (testing purposes)

kill - This will immediately kill your character (testing & exit purposes)

To use a command, type it in and then press ENTER on your keyboard.

Known Issues

The scrollbar on the command prompt is obnoxious but couldn't figure it out. I would've wasted more hours working on fixing it. Most fail safes for command issues are there, but I may have missed one or two.

Why can't I change my directions?! *Maybe I'm just DUMB IDK*

You have to face a direction before you can move in that direction. I have the allowed commands on the game's main page down in the description.

Yeah I did...maybe I'm just a silly Billy.

This is gonna be fun to rate someone else's game! :)

Cool concept, art , and music. Get's a little boring after a while. Perhaps allow shortened versions of the command, and or a command buffer.

Enemies tended to all move to the bottom row after a while and stopped attacking. I went and attacked them in the end to get the game to end without killing myself.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it at least for a little while. I could tell it was gonna get tedious but my ideas were gonna take way too long. Definitely wanna make a better version of this. (Possible idea, maybe you can earn upgrades in the form of shorter/better commands?)

I noticed that same issue with the enemies when I was play testing after submission. Definitely an odd bug that I'll fix in an updated version.

good enough. I like the concept and think it has potential, enjoyed playing

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm definitely gonna make plans to tweak it and turn it into something better.

Super creative! Loved the music and art style a lot. The gameplay was super fun at first but moving was a bit too slow so getting to tiles far away sometimes got a bit tiring, maybe with a couple more actions or speeding up animations a bit. The combat reminded me of crypt of the necromancer so I definitely loved it. I tried to kill a lot of enemies and ended up dying in a dumb way lol, but had a great time playing. I got 9 coins, killed 20 folks and got a 1900 score in the end

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Definitely will add more actions down the road. I have some ideas for improving it such as possible teleportation (at a cost). I definitely felt the animations were too slow. I actually had an idea that I wanted to implement that would let you undo your last move but would've taken me so long to build that system. Haha. (I also kept dying that same way too.) I didn't think about the similarities to NecroDancer but you're definitely right. It's got some similarities.
